VISION:
It is the vision of the founders of HOME to enable young Ugandans who have been orphaned, to complete their education, and to have a safe place which they can call home. To provide a sanctuary, in which these youth can endure, and thrive as they work toward a brighter future.
PROGRAM OUTLINE AND INFORMATION:
HOME will run two corresponding programs:
one for boys, which will be based within the HOME compound and a second programme for both boys and girls which will sponsor education for youth who live outside of HOME with a relative or a family friend.
The HOME family nucleus will consist of the following numbers:
House Auntie (administrator/ governing body of HOME)
House Uncle (administrator/governing body of HOME)
Counsellor
Six orphans
Additional members may include a security guard, cook, and tutor
The HOME compound will have the facilities to house six orphans at a time. This is a maximum and there will be no obligation to fill all the beds. Each youth will be carefully and specifically chosen for the HOME program and these admissions will not be expedited in any way just to use available beds.
Youth who are admitted to HOME may stay at HOME for the duration of their education as long as they are compliant with all the terms and conditions outlined in the HOME LIFE agreement which they will sign upon admission.
After completion of senior six, each youth will be supported and encouraged in finding employment or in creating their own business, thus facilitating independence and creating space for a new youth to enter the program.
HOME programs will encourage creativity and provide ways in which each youth can utilize their individual gifts and talents. Such programming may include training in traditional, cultural instruments and dance, opportunities for involvement in local sports events, training, and opportunity to express themselves in the arts.
Reading will be highly encouraged at HOME and books will be made available for both educational and enjoyment purposes.
Youth who graduate from the HOME program are always welcome at HOME and the HOME family will make every effort to maintain contact and relationships with those who leave the program after senior six. HOME remains home to all residents beyond completion of the HOME program.
n the case of a youth who is serious about their future and despite this is unable to succeed in high school, HOME will arrange from opportunity for that youth to learn a trade in order to prepare that youth for an independent future.
HOME may sponsor up to 30 boys and girls outside of the compound who live with relatives or family friends. HOME sponsorship of these extended family members covers school fees and other expenses directly related to school ONLY. The surviving family members are to remain responsible for all other needs of the youth.
Under special circumstances ONLY, HOME may choose to assist families in paying for supplies they cannot afford that the youth needs in order to perform well in school. This added assistance is at the discretion of the home administrators and will be determined on a need by need bases.
MONITORING PLANS:
The HOME Governing Body will monitor the students once per month and, in the process of monitoring, the governing body will have to visit at the school AND home (for extended family members of HOME) where each student lives. Monthly reports will be filled out for each student. Also, the school where the student is studying will be required to produce monthly reports.
